A high-profile family dispute has surfaced in Hyderabad involving a medical college owner and the family of a pharmaceutical executive, with both sides filing police complaints over a cancelled marriage alliance.
According to the college owner, talks regarding her daughter’s marriage to the pharma executive began earlier this year. She alleged that while the groom’s family initially claimed they were not interested in dowry, they later demanded an extravagant wedding, costly gifts, and a large amount of cash.
She further claimed that around Rs 55 lakh was spent on the engagement ceremony, including a luxury wristwatch, a BMW M5, and venue bookings. However, the wedding was allegedly called off unilaterally by the groom’s family, causing mental trauma and reputational damage to her family.
Based on these allegations, the college owner has lodged a complaint accusing the family of dowry harassment.
In response, the pharmaceutical executive’s father has filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the college owner arrived at their residence with a group of people, forcibly entered the premises, assaulted staff members, and damaged property.
Police confirmed that complaints have been registered from both sides and investigations are currently underway. Authorities are gathering evidence, reviewing statements, and examining available material before proceeding further.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with either case.
