Rhea Get Relief as Court Defreezes Accounts

A special court in Mumbai has granted major relief to Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty by ordering the immediate unfreezing of their bank accounts.

The court ruled in favour of the siblings after observing that the Narcotics Control Bureau failed to follow mandatory procedural requirements under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Represented by lawyer Ayaz Khan, Rhea and Showik argued that the NCB had not complied with Section 68F of the NDPS Act while freezing their accounts.

The prosecution opposed the plea, citing allegations regarding Rhea Chakraborty’s supposed involvement in a drug syndicate. However, the special NDPS court noted that the mandatory legal provisions were not followed, making the freezing of the accounts invalid in law.

The court subsequently directed the immediate defreezing of the bank accounts and allowed both siblings to operate them in accordance with Reserve Bank of India rules and regulations.
