Andhra Pradesh has introduced a first-of-its-kind QR code-based authentication system for handicrafts, giving a major digital boost to the state's traditional arts. Developed by the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (Lepakshi) following the suggestion of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the initiative allows buyers to scan a QR code and instantly access details about the product, its history, the artisan who created it, raw materials used, production process, and GI or ODOP recognition.
The first phase covers eight iconic handicrafts, including the Bobbili Veena, Kalamkari artworks, and Savara tribal paintings. The government plans to extend the system to all handicraft products and artisan clusters across the state. Besides helping customers verify authenticity and preventing counterfeit products, the initiative is expected to improve global visibility for Andhra Pradesh's handicrafts and ensure artisans receive greater recognition and better income opportunities.
