As preparations gather pace for the release of his upcoming entertainer Korean Kanakaraju, actor Varun Tej has candidly reflected on a challenging phase in his career. Speaking during the film's promotional campaign, the Mega Prince admitted that several of his recent projects failed to strike a chord with audiences despite being mounted on ambitious ideas. Rather than blaming external factors, Varun acknowledged that the responsibility ultimately lies with the filmmakers to understand what viewers expect from a theatrical experience.
Looking back at films such as Matka, Operation Valentine, and Gandeevadhari Arjuna, Varun said he deliberately experimented with unconventional stories in an effort to break away from routine commercial cinema. While he remains proud of taking creative risks, he believes those films appealed only to a limited section of the audience instead of connecting with moviegoers across age groups. He observed that audiences generally visit theatres expecting engaging entertainment, emotional connection, and memorable moments, and admitted that some of his recent choices may not have delivered that complete package.
Determined to turn the page, Varun said the lessons from those setbacks have reshaped his approach to script selection. He believes the industry is evolving rapidly and actors must constantly adapt to changing audience preferences. Confident about Korean Kanakaraju, he described it as a wholesome family entertainer packed with humor, fun, and mass appeal. According to the actor, the film has been designed to entertain viewers of all ages, and he hopes it will mark the beginning of a successful new chapter in his career while reconnecting him with audiences on a larger scale.
