Many voters have reported that booth-level officers (BLOs) have neglected their duties, failing to distribute or collect these essential forms. With a submission deadline set for Monday, those trying to engage in the electoral process are now grappling with a lack of support, compounded by public holidays that have rendered BLOs unavailable. "I’ve been trying to get the forms for days, but every time I call, there’s no response. Now, with the deadline today, I feel completely abandoned," lamented a frustrated voter from Attapur.
The situation is aggravated by technical issues as well, with numerous citizens unable to submit their forms online due to discrepancies between their details on EPIC cards and Aadhaar. Reports suggest that while 58.5% of forms have been digitized in Hyderabad, the actual distribution remains dismally low, with activists alleging that many residents have yet to receive their forms. "People could face the dire consequence of being omitted from electoral rolls, and it's not their fault," warned Syed Jalaluddin, president of Youth For Telangana, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
This crisis is not merely a local inconvenience but highlights systemic issues within the electoral framework. The role of BLOs is critical, yet their absence, particularly during public holidays, raises questions about the adequacy of preparations for such a pivotal civic duty. Despite calls for accountability, some BLOs have deflected blame, suggesting that voters have been negligent in collecting their forms well ahead of the deadline. “The deadline has been extended more than once, yet there seems to be a lack of proactive engagement from the public,” noted a BLO from Rajendranagar, pointing to the need for increased awareness and responsibility on the part of voters.
