Danam Nagender, the Khairatabad MLA, has suffered a setback in the Supreme Court in the defection case surrounding his political future. After the Telangana High Court ruled against him in the party-switching matter, Nagender approached the apex court with a Special Leave Petition, seeking a stay on the High Court order. The Supreme Court took up the plea for hearing on Thursday, drawing considerable attention as the outcome was expected to have implications for the next political steps in Khairatabad.
The Supreme Court, however, did not provide Nagender the relief he had sought. The latest development has effectively cleared the way for the disqualification proceedings against the MLA and has brought the focus back to the possibility of a fresh electoral contest in the constituency.
