Hyderabad, Feb 10: Actor Sonu Sood has come out in strong support of Rajpal Yadav, reacting to reports about the latter’s financial distress and legal troubles. Calling Rajpal a “gifted actor” who has given the industry years of unforgettable performances, Sonu said that life can sometimes turn unfair — not due to lack of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He also announced that Rajpal will be part of his upcoming film, urging filmmakers to stand together in difficult times.
In a heartfelt post on X, Sonu said a small signing amount, adjustable against future work, should be seen as dignity, not charity. “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone,” he wrote, adding that this is how the film fraternity proves it is more than just business.
Rajpal Yadav’s troubles stem from loans taken for his 2010 film Ata Pata Laapata, which he was unable to repay, leading to multiple cheque bounce cases. While the Delhi High Court had earlier suspended his sentence considering he was not a habitual offender, the court later took a stern view after repeated failures to honour settlement commitments. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma deprecated his conduct, noting non-compliance despite several opportunities. Sonu Sood’s gesture has now sparked fresh conversations about empathy and collective responsibility within Bollywood.
